OREANDA-NEWS. Isolation of Russia turned out to be not a good tactics and did not produce results, so the French President Emmanuel Macron tried to start a dialogue with Moscow. This was stated in an interview with the Hromadske channel by the Ambassador of France to Ukraine Etienne de Poncins.

“The situation in which we did not speak with the Russians, in which we isolated them or kept a distance with them, was not good tactics and strategy,” the diplomat said. According to him, such a policy did not give good results. In particular, because of this, the summit in Normandy format did not gather for years.

De Poncins noted that Macron’s top priority desire was to restore confidence and contacts and to start talking with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

However, the Ambassador pointed out that the position of Paris regarding the territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as anti-Russian sanctions, remained unchanged.
