OREANDA-NEWS. Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido announced his withdrawal from the Popular Will party.

He explained this by the need to concentrate on the duties of the interim head of state. “I asked my party to relieve me of membership in order to become an independent citizen, to attend to each of the spheres of life of the country and the needs of our people,” Guaido wrote on his Twitter page.

On January 5, Guaido was ousted as the head of the Venezuelan parliament. Luis Parra, who was elected in the absence of Guaido, became a new speaker of the National Assembly. Parra is a former member of the political party Justice First, he is called a supporter of Nicolas Maduro. However, the United States continues to consider Guaido the President of Venezuela, while the European Union recognizes him as the speaker of parliament.
