OREANDA-NEWS. In the current geopolitical situation, Belarus remains to be the only ally of Russia. This was stated by President of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko.

“The only ally that remained with Russia is Belarus… We are Russia’s second buyers of gas after the Germans. We process a huge amount of their oil. Of course, they do not want to lose Belarus economically, but most of all politically, because losing Belarus would be a severe blow to the domestic policy of Russia,” Lukashenko said on the air of the state television channel Belarus-1.

President has repeatedly said about the need to reduce prices for Russian gas. The Ministry of Energy of Belarus sent to Russian company Gazprom a letter with a proposal to discuss gas supplies in 2020 and terms of supply in 2021. Gazprom intends to negotiate only after Belarus pays its debt. Minsk declares there is no debt to the Russian corporation. In addition, Lukashenko said on June 16 that the country could find an alternative to Russian gas.
