OREANDA-NEWS. The Belarusian economy experienced three simultaneous blows during the first months of 2020. This was stated by President of the republic. Alexander Lukashenko during a meeting in Minsk.

“Our small economy, which does not have an airbag of raw materials, was forced to fend off three blows at the same time,” the Belarusian leader said, commenting on a 0.3 % decline in the gross domestic product during the first quarter. At the beginning of the year, the country was faced with “oil restrictions by the closest partner,” he explained, meaning Russia. Then there was a break in existing economic ties and closure of borders, followed by a fight against the spread of coronavirus infection.

Lukashenko emphasized that in such conditions it is necessary to maintain people’s confidence in economic policy and ensure price stability.
