OREANDA-NEWS. The main task of law enforcement agencies during the presidential election campaign is to maintain stability in the country, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said at a meeting devoted to the activities of state bodies of the national security system.

“Democracy is democracy, but there should not be lawlessness. And it won’t be,” the head of state stressed. The President said that the campaign before the presidential elections scheduled for August 9 is being held with law violations, since some candidates believe that “all means are good to achieve the goal.”

According to Lukashenko, the protests are held according to a pre-conceived scenario. “First, representatives of a number of initiative groups abuse the right to hold pickets to… destabilize the socio-political situation. Then they will form… militant groups that will possibly organize a massacre on the square. They are calling people to this,” the President warned.

Lukashenko called Belarus “an island of security,” and, recalling how the situation in Ukraine developed, he demanded that security officials maintain stability in the country, in particular, prevent unauthorized rallies and mass events.
