OREANDA-NEWS. On July 15, German Chancellor Angela Merkel held a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

This was reported by the official representative of the government of Germany, Steffen Seibert. “The conversation focused on the implementation of the Minsk Agreements on the peaceful settlement of the conflict in the east of Ukraine. In addition, the negotiators discussed the situation surrounding the arms embargo against Iran, as well as the current situation in Libya,” Seibert said.

In 2015, United Nations Security Council’s Resolution No. 2231 was adopted. It supports of the agreement on the Iranian nuclear programme, according to which all sanctions against Tehran, introduced during the period of 2006–2010, are terminated. The arms embargo against Iran should be valid for 5 years; it will expire in November 2020.
