OREANDA-NEWS. After quarantine measures, introduced in Kazakhstan due to the threat of coronavirus spread, were lifted in early May, the number of daily registered infections increased seven times. This was stated by the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

“In order to take urgent measures to stabilize the current epidemiological situation, I entrust the State Commission to work out and submit to me a proposal on the introduction of strict quarantine within two days, similar to the one that was in effect in March–May of this year,” the head of state said at a meeting held in a videoconference format.

According to the politician, the increase in the incidence was due to the fact that “the public administration system at the central and local level has not prepared for effective functioning outside the state of emergency.” Tokayev instructed, in preparation for the second wave of the epidemic, to increase the number of beds in hospitals by one and a half times by the end of July and to resolve the issue of providing medicines within five days.

Over the previous day, 547 new cases of COVID-19 infection were detected in Kazakhstan. Thus, the total number of cases exceeded 21.3 thousand.
