OREANDA-NEWS. President of Russia Vladimir Putin congratulated Sadyr Japarov on his victory in the presidential election in Kyrgyzstan. The election was held on January 10, and Japarov won 79.2 % of votes; the turnout was 39.75 %.

“Russia and Kyrgyzstan have accumulated large experience of fruitful cooperation in various fields, constructive interaction within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Community, Collective Security Treaty Organization, Commonwealth of Independent State and Shanghai Cooperation Organisation. I hope that your activity as the head of state will contribute to the further build-up of the entire complex of Russian-Kyrgyz ties,” Putin said.

According to him, strengthening ties between Russia and Kyrgyzstan meets the interests of peoples of these countries and leads to the growing of stability and security in the Central Asian region.

In October 2020, Japarov became prime minister; a few days before that, opposition supporters had released him from prison. After the resignation of President Sooronbaiy Jeenbekov, since October 15, Japarov has been acting President of Kyrgyzstan. In November, he resigned to participate in the presidential election.
