OREANDA-NEWS. Swedish prosecutor Christer Peterssson said at an online press conference that investigators had identified a person guilty of the murder of Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme in 1986, he is designer Stig Engstrom.

“Today we can announce that we have identified the killer, he is the so-called Skandiamannen (The nickname of Engstrom. – Ed.). Since he has already died (Committed suicide in 2000. – Ed.), I can’t indict him. The case is closed,” Petersson said.

The investigation failed to link the bullets found at the scene with any weapons, he added. There is also no new technical evidence, so the criminal was identified by the testimony of witnesses.

The killing of the politician Olof Palme, popular among some citizens and highly criticized by others, who led the Swedish government from 1969 to 1976, and then from 1982, occurred on the evening of February 28, 1986. That day, he and his wife were returning home from the cinema without bodyguards. The criminal shot twice on the back of Palme and escaped.
