OREANDA-NEWS. The European Union is ready to allocate Greece the sum of 700 million euros against the backdrop of a new migration crisis on the border with Turkey.

This was declared by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen at a press conference in Greece. The politician specified that the total amount consists of 350 million euros, which are available immediately, and 350 million, which can be requested additionally.

Von der Layen together with the President of the European Council Charles Michel and the head of the European Parliament David Sassoli visit Greece and, in particular, the border with Turkey, amid the migration crisis.

On March 1, the representative of the Greek government, Stelios Petsas, called the situation with illegal migrants a threat to national security.
