OREANDA-NEWS. US President Donald Trump won the vote at the Republican Party caucuses in the state of Iowa.

“The Republican Party of Iowa announced President Donald Trump has overwhelmingly won,” the statement on the party’s Twitter page says, noting that turnout was a record.

According to the USA Today newspaper, after calculation of 92.58 % of the votes, the incumbent president managed to get 97.2 %, while the former Governor of Massachusetts William Weld, who took second place, received just 1.3 %. Trump called the result a “big win” and thanked his supporters.

A Republican candidate will be elected in August 2020 at a party congress in Charlottesville – he will need to gain 1,237 votes out of 2,472.
