OREANDA-NEWS. Reuters agency reports that British Chancellor of the Exchequer Sajid Javid resigned amid rearrangements in the cabinet of Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Journalists note that his tenure as minister of finance of the United Kingdom was the shortest in the country’s history since 1970. Javid has been holding this position for 204 days.

According to the website of the Office of the Prime Minister of Great Britain, Rishi Sunak was appointed as a new Chancellor of the Exchequer.

Johnson also removed five cabinet members: the Attorney General of England and Wales Geoffrey Cox, the Minister of State for Housing and Planning Esther MacVey, the Northern Ireland Secretary Julian Smith, the Secretary of State at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Theresa Villiers, and the Secretary for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Andrea Leadsom.
