OREANDA-NEWS. Russia fulfills its obligations under the memorandum with Turkey of October 22 and hopes that Ankara will fulfill its obligations. This was stated on Friday by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova. “I can once again quote the Russian Foreign Minister about Russia's fulfillment of its obligations”, she said in response to a request to comment on the fulfillment of the obligations by the memorandum participants. “We proceed from the assumption that Russia will do part of the work under this agreement”.

“We hope that our partners will also keep their word. We are working very actively on this”, Zakharova added. On October 9, Turkey announced that it would carry out Operation Source of Peace in northeastern Syria to create a buffer zone there. It should become a protective belt for the Turkish border. According to Ankara’s plan, Syrian refugees will be able to return to Turkey from this region.

On October 22, Presidents of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and Turkey Tayyip Erdogan at a meeting in Sochi adopted a memorandum on joint actions to resolve the situation in northeast Syria.
