OREANDA-NEWS. October 05, 2016. As part of its ongoing commitment to students, faculty and staff of diverse racial backgrounds, Indiana University will take part in the fifth annual Indiana Latino Expo on Oct. 7 and 8 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis.

IU is a sponsor of the event, which is free of charge and offers platforms to improve the quality of life for Indiana’s Latino community, including economic development, cultural advancement and educational opportunities.

“We are thrilled to once again participate in the Indiana Latino Expo, a fantastic event that highlights awareness of important issues for Latino and Hispanic residents of our state,” said James Wimbush, IU’s vice president for diversity, equity and multicultural affairs and dean of IU’s graduate school. “We are grateful for the opportunity to present some of the unique opportunities at IU and demonstrate that our commitment to diversity and inclusion makes our campuses welcoming places for all.”

The nearly 10,000 expected attendees at the fairgrounds' Element Financial Blue Ribbon Pavilion will be treated to a lineup that includes music, entertainment, a job fair and a variety of services for visitors throughout Indiana. IU representatives will be available in Booth 511 to answer questions and host activities throughout the event.

Saturday, Oct. 8, is IU’s 21st Century Scholars Day at the expo. Current and potential students can learn about, sign up for and check their status in Indiana’s 21st Century Scholars Program, a statewide, four-year, full-tuition scholarship for qualified Indiana residents. Students and scholars can also complete a virtual campus tour, a requirement of the 21st Century Program.
