OREANDA-NEWS. As Rinat Maksyutov, general director of the State Scientific Center for Virology and Biotechnology "Vector", said, the strains of coronavirus found in Russia do not have significant changes.

As he explained, the new coronavirus is constantly changing, like any other RNA virus. At the same time, the virus accumulates its genetic mutations and some changes occur during replication.

However, Russian scientists have found that there is no increased threat to humanity. As Maksyutov told the Russia 24 TV channel, over the entire period, Vector's specialists identified over 1,400 different nucleotide substitutions in Russian isolates of the new coronavirus, while studies have shown that most of them do not represent any significant changes.

Maksyutov expressed these changes in numbers. According to him, most strains of the new coronavirus do not differ from each other by more than 30 nucleotide substitutions. With a genome of 30,000 nucleotides, this is only one tenth of a percent, so there is no cause for concern.

As the Rospotrebnadzor reported earlier, the situation related to the detection of a new coronavirus mutation in the UK is under control. The Russian department, in contrast to the British, noted that they do not believe that changes in the virus will seriously affect the clinical picture of the disease it causes.
