OREANDA-NEWS  Canadian scientists have identified potentially effective drugs against COVID-19.

To search for viral inhibitors, scientists used a Canadian Light Source (CLS) synchrotron radiation source. They could find inhibitors that target the main protease Mpro which cleaves viral proteins and is involved in the multiplication of SARS-CoV-2.

In addition, the scientists found that GC376, which is a bisulfite prodrug, can effectively suppress the Mpro of coronavirus - that is, it turns into a drug inside the body and is used to treat coronavirus in cats.

With the help of CLS, it became possible to study the interaction of a drug molecule with a protease at the structural level, experts concluded.
