OREANDA-NEWS The flight of the first Russian liner with an electric motor is scheduled for 2020. This information was told in the press service of the Fund for advanced research.

"The demonstrator of a hybrid power plant with an electric motor based on high-temperature superconductivity is planned to be tested at a flying laboratory. The technologies developed for it can be used in the creation of various aircraft, including multi — rotor," the release says.

In Moscow, on the basis of the Central Institute of aviation engine building have already passed demonstration tests of an electric motor on high-temperature superconductors (htsp) with a capacity of 500 kW.

"Increasing the specific power of the engine is planned to be achieved through the use in the design of high-temperature superconducting materials of the second generation, is cooled by liquid nitrogen," — said in the Fund for advanced research.

The use of high-temperature superconductors will also reduce the size and weight of electric machines and hybrid power plants based on them, the Fund said.

In this case, the main feature of superconductors is a significant reduction, up to the almost complete absence of electrical resistance.

High-temperature superconductors -electric motors can be used in electric or hybrid power plants of aircraft of local air lines, advanced rotary-wing aircraft and air taxis with vertical takeoff and landing, according to the developers.

Foreign companies have been testing aircraft with electric motors for several years. So, in January, Boeing conducted the first test of an electric passenger drone with vertical take-off and landing, which is designed to fly at a distance of 80 km. The company is also developing a large unmanned cargo electric aircraft. Electric motors are also used in single-seat lethal devices, which are tested by Kitty Hawk startup (it is financed by Google co-founder Larry Page).
