OREANDA-NEWS Employees of the University of Pennsylvania discovered changes in the brain of American diplomats who worked in Havana from 2016 to 2017. Previously, they were recalled from the island due to strange symptoms.

Scientists have conducted MRI scans of 40 diplomats who massively left Cuba after complaining of nausea, dizziness, temporary loss of hearing, vision, and even memory.

The study shocked scientists: the amount of white matter in the brain of diplomats was less than the average person. In addition, scientists were able to find changes in the volume of gray matter of the diencephalon and cerebellum, as well as abnormalities that could affect vision or hearing acuity.

Such metamorphoses, according to physicians, are not characteristic of craniocerebral injuries or concussions. There are no specific diagnoses in custody. Doctors reported that they would need additional research.

Earlier, the staff of the US diplomatic mission in Cuba called acoustic attacks on the island a possible cause. During the standard physical examination, the doctors never found any illnesses or problems with well-being. The FBI launched an investigation.
