OREANDA-NEWSUkraine has succeeded in moving to NATO standards and is ready to join the Enhanced Opportunity Partnership Program. Such an opinion on Thursday at a meeting with Canadian Minister of Defense Harjit Singh Sajjana and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in Brussels expressed the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Andrii Zagorodniuk.

"Our NATO partners know that joining the Enhanced Opportunity Partnership Program remains an absolute priority for Ukraine. Ukraine has made significant progress in implementing the alliance standards and already meets the military criteria for joining the program. We are ready, and now there is a wonderful window of opportunity", his words are the press service of the Ukrainian military department. He also called on partners to support this decision.

Ukraine expressed its desire to become a member of the NATO Enhanced Partnerships Program last fall, and later filed an official application. US Permanent Representative to NATO Kay Bailey Hutchison stressed that Washington will support the country's accession to the program, but in response expects Kiev to strengthen the fight against corruption and active reforms in the military sphere.

In February 2019, the Verkhovna Rada approved amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine, reinforcing the country's desire for NATO with the wording of the “irreversibility of the Euro-Atlantic course”.
