OREANDA-NEWS. February 5, 2009. Dmitry Medvedev held a meeting to discuss issues of ensuring safety in state-run institutions and analysing the causes of the fire in a nursing home in the Komi Republic.
 
The President not only insisted that all those responsible for the deaths of people be prosecuted, but also commissioned an exhaustive inquiry into the responsibility of local authorities for the conditions in state-run institutions.

The head of state ordered that a comprehensive audit of all nursing homes in Russia be prepared immediately by Plenipotentiary Presidential Envoys to the Federal Districts, employees of federal departments and regional authorities.

The meeting was attended by the Prosecutor General Yury Chaika, Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office Sergei Naryshkin, Aide to the President and Head of the Presidential Control Directorate Konstantin Chuychenko, Minister of Health and Social Development Tatyana Golikova, and Minister for Emergency Situations Sergei Shoigu.

On 31 January a fire in the nursing home in the village of Podyelsk in the Komi Republic killed 23 people.
