OREANDA-NEWS. The Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation recorded 24.5 thousand corruption crimes for the first six months of 2021. This is a record figure for the last eight years, according to the collection of the department, published on Monday, August 30.

About half of the cases of corruption are bribery 12.1 thousand cases. Most often, bribes were given and taken in the Perm and Stavropol territories, as well as in St. Petersburg, the Prosecutor General's Office notes. The level of corruption in Russia increased by 16.5 percent compared to last year. The damage caused by corruption crimes has also increased. In 2020, it amounted to $440,3 million (32,4 billion rubles), and this year — $535,5 million (39.4 billion rubles).

Earlier, the Russian Prosecutor General's Office presented data according to which law enforcement officers commit corruption-related crimes more often than other officials. They are followed by officials from the Russian Defense Ministry.
