OREANDA-NEWS. In the Russian Federation, at the beginning of next year, 75 landfills with waste that are dangerous to people and nature will be eliminated.

 According to Dmitry Kobylkin, Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology, this will be done as part of the Ecology national project.

 “The last 15 years have been approaching three objects in the Nizhny Novgorod region for a very long time. These are Igumnovo polygons, the lake, the so-called black hole, and the white sea. The black hole is the place where the bird dies flying up to. These are the places where long and  for many years, without any separation, the waste of our chemical industry, "said the Minister.

 Earlier, Rosprirodnadzor analyzed data on waste disposal facilities in Russia included in the state registry of waste disposal facilities (GRORO) and came to the conclusion that some landfills are close to exhaustion capacity.  Rosprirodnadzor found out that “such a problem exists in the Republic of Ingushetia (96% of the design capacity was used), the Leningrad Region (95%) - including all waste from the territory of St. Petersburg, Altai Territory (95%), and the Republic of Bashkortostan  (92%), the Republic of Kalmykia (88%) and in a number of other regions. ”
