OREANDA-NEWS. March 26, 2009. President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov had a meeting with Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin at the House of Government of the Russian Federation.

Cordially greeting the honorary guest Vladimir Putin congratulated Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on the exceptional effectives of the Turkmen-Russian top-level talks which had become the continuation of the previous talks in Moscow and Ashgabat. The RF Prime Ministers emphasized that the bilateral documents fully reflecting the partners’ goodwill would be an important step towards enhancing and expanding cooperation with fraternal Turkmenistan that Russia viewed not only as a very promising partner but also a dependable friend.

Thanking for the kind words the President of Turkmenistan emphasized that he was very glad to meet with Vladimir Putin, who had initiated the qualitatively new stage in the history of the bilateral relations between two friendly countries and provided comprehensive support to this partnership nowadays.

Focusing with satisfaction at steady dynamics of the intergovernmental relations that could be proved by the continued increase in trade turnover between Turkmenistan and Russia Vladimir Putin highly appreciated the great contribution of the leadership of Turkmenistan and personally Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, who paid paramount attention to enhancement of Turkmen-Russian cooperation, to this process

The RF Prime Minister emphasized that Russia carefully treated its cooperation with Turkmenistan and focused on intense interest showed by Russia’s business community in establishing full-scale partnership with Turkmen partners that was vividly illustrated by the keen interest in the Turkmen-Russian economic forum and the fair of Turkmen commodities in Moscow.

Thanking the Russian partners for the constructive approach to building business cooperation that had assumed the strategic character the Turkmen leader focused on exceptional significance of the regular meetings and business forums that facilitated building the general platform for further effective partnership.

Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said that Turkmenistan attached paramount importance to development of overall cooperation with Russia. In this regard the Turkmen leader highly appreciated the work of the intergovernmental Turkmen-Russian commission for economic cooperation, which had become an effective mechanism for implementing the existing profound potential of cooperation. Putting emphasis on the positive dynamics of development of the trade and economic relations the leader of Turkmenistan focused on the need to intensify joint activities and invited the Russian partners to collaborate in the ongoing national and regional projects in Turkmenistan.

The talks, which proved the reciprocal willingness to intensify the close intergovernmental dialogue maintained by two countries over these years, focused on the specific steps aimed at enhancing concerted efforts to realize the agreements achieved in Moscow. Exchanging views the sides discussed the perspectives of Turkmen-Russian cooperation in a number of the major fields in which efforts could be effectively concerted.

The focus of the talks was cooperation in the fuel and energy sector as the priority vector of Turkmen-Russian partnership. Putting emphasis on significance of the diversified approach to building trade and economic cooperation Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Vladimir Putin called for nitrifying cooperation in a number of the very promising fields.

The RF Prime Minister expressed belief that the large-scale reforms initiated in Turkmenistan particularly to diversify economy, establish highly profitable industries, manufacturea wide range of high-quality and export oriented products would promote employing the existing opportunities to strengthen mutually advantageous partnership, which had the undoubtedly profound and versatile potential.

The sides put emphasis on expansion of humanitarian partnership particularly in the sphere of education. The sides were unanimous that cooperation in this important sphere had the splendid perspectives and would be further actively developed.

The talks focused on further cooperation to strengthen security. Putting emphasis on the coincidence or proximity in views on the particular global issues the sides exchanged views on the ways to coordinate the countries’ actions at global and regional levels to combat international terrorism, illicit drug trafficking, transnational organized crime.

Reaffirming the willingness of two countries to make the traditional intergovernmental dialogue more constructive and pragmatic the President of Turkmenistan and the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation expressed belief that Turkmen-Russian cooperation based on the firm foundation of the age-old relations between two fraternal peoples would be ever effective and fruitful.
