OREANDA-NEWS. April 21, 2010. Valentin Vlasov, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Kyrgyzstan, made the following appeal to the citizens of the Kyrgyz Republic:

“Dear people of Kyrgyzstan,

“The April 19 events in a suburb of Bishkek have caused the legitimate concern of all residents living there and the deep concern of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian authorities, media and civil society.

“The situation in the Kyrgyz Republic has been reported to the leadership of the Russian Federation and given wide coverage in the Russian media.

“I, as Ambassador of Russia, am in constant touch with the Interim Government, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and security agencies of Kyrgyzstan and have met with the country’s leaders several times in the last few days. The Embassy informed the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry in writing of the facts obtained by us. The Embassy’s statements and concern are taken note of.

“I want to note that the Russian Embassy is closely monitoring the situation in the regions, and reacts to the calls and messages. Aware of the complicated situation in Kyrgyzstan today, we demand confirmation and recheck all the information on conflicts in several localities.

“We support the Appeal of the Forum of Russian Compatriots’ Organizations to the Interim Government to prevent interethnic strife and welcome efforts by voluntary people’s patrols made up of members of all nationalities, and the vigorous actions of residents to maintain order in their localities.

“I urge all healthy forces of society in the Kyrgyz Republic to show the intrinsic wisdom and prudence of all peoples living in the country and make every effort for an early return to normalcy.”
