OREANDA-NEWS. Members of the European Parliament by a majority of votes (532 for, 84 against) adopted a resolution on tougher sanctions against Russia in connection with the poisoning of opposition politician Aleksey Navalny.

They called for an international investigation into the Navalny case, in which experts from the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, as well as representatives of the European Union, United Nations, etc. should take part.

“Political assassinations and poisonings in Russia are a systemic weapon of the regime deliberately targeting the opposition,” the portal Euronews quotes the resolution.

European deputies spoke out, in particular, for the imposition of sanctions against those whose activities were investigated by the Anti-Corruption Foundation created by Navalny. They mean, among other things, the freezing of the assets of such persons in Europe.

The document adopted in Brussels also says about the need to terminate the construction of the gas pipeline Nord Stream 2.
