OREANDA-NEWS. The head of the department for international military cooperation of the Ministry of Defense of Belarus met with foreign military attachés.

This was reported on the Telegram channel of the Ministry. “Major General Oleg Voinov informed the representatives of the military-diplomatic corps, accredited by the Ministry of Defense of Belarus, about the real situation in the country at the present time, the place and role of the armed forces in the events,” the message reads.

Presidential elections in Belarus took place on August 9. According to official data, the current head of state, Alexander Lukashenko, won with 80.1 % of votes. Second place’s candidate, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, did not recognize election results. Mass protests began in the cities and towns of Belarus, and they escalated into clashes with law enforcement officers. Several thousand people were detained. Dozens of demonstrators and police officers were injured.
