OREANDA-NEWS. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo during a telephone conversation agreed to intensify the dialogue on arms limitation and non-proliferation. This is stated in a message published on April 17 by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

“The parties agreed to intensify the Russian-American dialogue on arms limitation and non-proliferation. Sergey Viktorovich Lavrov emphasized the need to build it, taking into account all factors affecting strategic stability,” the publication says.

In addition, the issue of strategic stability was discussed. Lavrov reminded of the Russian proposal to extend the START Treaty, which expires in February 2021. The Russian minister emphasized that Moscow was ready for new possible agreements on nuclear weapons, but at the same time noted the importance of maintaining the START Treaty during the preparation of the treaties.
