OREANDA-NEWS. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held a telephone conversation with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken. The parties discussed the Iranian nuclear deal. This is stated on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Lavrov and Blinken exchanged views on the prospects for restoring the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action for the Settlement of the Iranian Nuclear Program (JCPOA). They also touched upon several topical issues on the bilateral agenda. The conversation took place on the initiative of the American side.

The JCPOA is an agreement between Iran and a number of states regarding Iran's nuclear program. According to the agreement signed in 2015, Iran should allow inspectors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to it's nuclear facilities, and Western countries should lift sanctions step by step.

Earlier, the permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to international organizations in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov, said that the Russian side calls for an early resumption of negotiations on the JCPOA. In September, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Said Khatibzadeh stressed that Tehran will resume dialogue on the nuclear deal in Vienna in the near future.
