OREANDA-NEWS. German Chancellor Angela Merkel considers that the decision of Twitter and other social networks to block the accounts of US President Donald Trump is problematic.

According to German government’s spokesman Steffen Seibert, Merkel believes that the decision on long-term blocking of accounts should be made not at the level of the leadership of social networks, but in accordance with the law. “It can be limited, but only in accordance with the law and within the framework that is determined by the legislator, and not in accordance with the decisions of the leadership of social media. […] From this point of view, the Chancellor considers it problematic that the accounts of the American president are frozen on a long-term basis,” Seibert said.

More than 89 million people were subscribed to Trump’s Twitter account. The administration of the social network blocked it, accusing him the current head of the White House of violating rules. The company explained this by the fact that Trump’s posts, made a few days after his supporters’ attack on the Capitol in Washington, which occurred on the day of the approval of the election results (January 6), violated the ban on glorifying violence. After Twitter, Trump’s accounts were also blocked by Facebook, Instagram, Twitch and other net resources.
