OREANDA-NEWS. Warsaw may impose restrictions against Minsk if Brussels does not do it. This was stated by Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Zbigniew Rau.

“If it does not come to the introduction of such sanctions – we are talking about sanctions aimed at certain officials of the Belarusian state, then the countries of our region are considering – I am talking about Belarus’ neighbours that are members of the EU – the introduction of national sanctions,” the politician said.

At the same time, Rau expressed hope that the European Union would nevertheless introduce restrictions, and recalled that a consensus on this was reached at the end of August: it was assumed that the measures would affect Belarusian officials, who, according to Brussels, are responsible for election fraud and cruel treatment of protesters.

Cyprus opposed the imposition of these sanctions, since Nicosia demanded to take similar steps against Turkey for conducting geological exploration in the Cypriot economic zone of the Mediterranean Sea.
