OREANDA-NEWS. Baku will never agree to hold a referendum on territorial affiliation in the unrecognized Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh. This was stated by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.

“No, of course not. There will be no referendum in Nagorno-Karabakh. We will never agree with this. We did not agree to this during the negotiations, and now, when most of the territories have been returned, this is out of the question,” the politician said. He stressed that Azerbaijan will never give up the goal of complete liberation of the “occupied territories.” According to Aliyev, all Azerbaijani migrants from Nagorno-Karabakh need to return to their “ancestral lands,” which Baku plans to take in the near future.

At the same time, Azerbaijani President said that he does not reject the introduction of observers and peacekeepers in Nagorno-Karabakh, but Baku will put forward its conditions. “In principle, we do not reject this. However, we will certainly put forward our conditions when the time comes,” Aliyev explained.
