OREANDA-NEWSRussia would like to conclude a new trade agreement with Great Britain after the kingdom leaves the European Union, however, it is premature to talk about this. This was announced on Friday by video link from London by the head of the Russian diplomatic mission in the UK, Andrei Kelin, during an expert discussion in the Valdai international discussion club.

“Of course, we would like to get a new comprehensive trade agreement with the British side, but this is probably very far away”, the diplomat said. “We need to conclude an agreement in the field of aviation, transport, trade in fissile materials, and so on. We have, in principle, already taken an inventory of what we could do with the UK”, added Kelin. “But at the same time, there is complete silence on the part of the UK, because that she’s doing more urgent things for her".

According to Kelin, the United Kingdom has already entered into bilateral trade and economic agreements with the Commonwealth states (the former British Commonwealth), as well as closest partners, in particular with Switzerland. The Russian ambassador to the UK said that Moscow will plan interaction with London for the coming years, but taking into account anti-Russian statements, we are not talking about the short term.
