OREANDA-NEWS. Russia is concerned about the situation in Belarus, where mass protests began after the presidential elections. This was stated by a spokesperson of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova.

“We are closely following the events that have taken place in Belarus in recent days. We are concerned about received information about the incidents on the streets of a number of Belarusian cities connected with the violation of order, which took place after the presidential election,” the diplomat said. According to her, Moscow is interested in stabilizing the situation in the neighbouring country and hopes that this will happen soon.

The Foreign Ministry spokeswoman also noted that Russia is registering attempts to exert pressure on Belarus from abroad. “We note the unprecedented pressure exerted by certain foreign partners on the Belarusian authorities. There are clear attempts of external interference in the affairs of a sovereign state in order to split society and destabilize the situation,” Zakharova resumed.
