OREANDA-NEWS. Ukrainian filmmaker Oleg Sentsov during his speech in the European Parliament on November 26 said that Ukraine needs to return a nuclear bomb, but not negotiate on the Donbass.

Sentsov took part in a meeting of three committees of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, where he will officially receive the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought (he became a laureate in 2018). During the meeting, the issues related to the Minsk agreements of 2014 and the Budapest Memorandum on Security Assurances of 1994 were also discussed.

The Ukrainian film director compared the negotiations under the “Steinmeier formula” and in the “Normandy format” with an attempt at concluding a truce and said that he did not understand their purpose.

According to Sentsov, Ukraine, signing the Budapest Memorandum, voluntarily surrendered the third largest number of nuclear warheads on the planet for the sake of security in the world. He said that Russia, Great Britain and the United States failed to guarantee Ukraine the integrity of its territory. Kiev lost the Crimea, so we need to return nuclear bomb, Sentsov resumed.

Oleg Sentsov was accused of preparing terrorist acts in the Crimea and sentenced in Russia in 2015 to 20 years in prison. According to the court’s verdict, the film director created a terrorist group in the Crimea, whose participants in 2014 carried out two attacks in Simferopol: arson of the offices of the public organization “Russian Community of Crimea” and the regional branch of Russian political party “United Russia”.

Sentsov was released in September, 2019, in the course of an exchange of prisoners between Russia and Ukraine.
