OREANDA-NEWS. The United Nations Security Council adopted a resolution for extending the arms embargo on the Central African Republic (CAR) by half a year. 13 members of the Council supported the document; Russia and China abstained, as they advocated for greater relaxation of restrictions on arms supplies.

According to the text of the resolution, the UN Security Council decided that until July 31, 2020 all Member States will continue to take the necessary measures to prevent the direct or indirect supply, sale or transfer to the CAR of weapons and related materials of all types, including ammunition, military vehicles and spare parts for military equipment.

In addition, member states undertake a commitment not to provide technical assistance to the CAR, not to train and not to provide financial support in the areas related to military activities.
