OREANDA-NEWS. The United States is ready to begin arms control negotiations with Russia. This was announced at a briefing by the President’s National Security Advisor, Robert O’Brien.

The official said that soon Washington would begin negotiations with Moscow on arms control and the nuclear issue, which is important for the security of not only the United States and Russia but of all countries. O’Brien added that the USA plans to continue to confront Russia when necessary, but the talks should be held, however.

In August 2019, the United States withdrew from the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty, which limited the characteristics of the missiles produced by two countries. Russia and the United States are still complying with the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty which expires in February 2021; it remains to be the only current arms limitation agreement.
