OREANDA-NEWS. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky submitted to the Verkhovna Rada a bill entitled On Restoring Public Confidence in Constitutional Proceedings, which provides for the termination of the powers of all current judges of the Constitutional Court. The head of state also proposes to declare invalid the recent decision of the Court on the recognition of some provisions of the law On the Prevention of Corruption unconstitutional.

On October 27, the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, upon the submission of 47 parliamentarians, recognized a significant part of the provisions of the law On the Prevention of Corruption as inconsistent with the country’s Constitution. The clause on the need to publish electronic declarations for their verification is among them. The judges declared unconstitutional the article of the Criminal Code, which provides for liability for inaccurate declaration. In their opinion, the punishment is excessive.

“When making the decision of the Constitutional Court… no proper justification was given for the mentioned decision,” the explanatory note of the presidential submission reads. The document also claims the need to ensure “the preservation of the European and Euro-Atlantic choice of Ukrainian society,” the principle of the rule of law, as well as to eliminate the threat to national security.
