PhosAgro, UNESCO and IUPAC continue to accept applications for this year’s Green Chemistry for Life Grants
OREANDA-NEWS. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) and PhosAgro (Moscow Stock Exchange, LSE: PHOR), one of the world's leading producers of phosphate-based mineral fertilizers, continue to accept applications for this year’s Green Chemistry for Life grants.
Within the framework of the joint Green Chemistry for Life programme with UNESCO and IUPAC, grants are provided to young scientists seeking to create new "green" technologies for the production and application of mineral fertilizers. In a similar vein, PhosAgro acted as the general partner of the VII IUPAC International Conference on Green Chemistry in Moscow, which was held at the Mendeleev Russian Chemical and Technological University under the chairmanship of the President of IUPAC, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Natalia Tarasova.
Andrey Guryev, a member of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO Affairs and the CEO of PhosAgro said: "We livin in an age where care for the environment and cooperation with science are critical to providing a healthy ecosystem for future generations. I hope that our joint activity with IUPAC, and in particular the Green Chemistry for Life grants, will continue to not only set a positive example, but also bring real practical benefits to society."
IUPAC President, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Natalia Tarasova thanked PhosAgro, noting that, "without the Company’s support, a project of this scale and international significance would not be possible." More than 200 scientists from Europe, Asia and the Americas took part in the conference. Sessions covered five core topics sections: green materials, ionic liquids and supercritical media; sustainable development goals and green chemistry; green industrial processes (environmentally friendly production, green nanotechnology); and environmentally-friendly technologies: supramolecular systems and life support functions carried out by non-living organic matter; human capacity building: education and scientific and technical cooperation. The conference presented 63 oral and 95 poster presentations.
In December 2017, the PhosAgro, UNESCO and IUPA Green Chemistry for Life project won the Best Environmental Programme prize at the esteemed Leaders of Corporate Responsibility awards organized by Donors Forum, PwC and Vedomosti newspaper.
