OREANDA-NEWS  The US Navy has begun a series of tests of its newest and most advanced aircraft carrier, carrying out powerful explosions to determine if the ship is ready for war, AFP reported.

The first of the trials, known as the Full Ship Shock Trials, took place on Friday. The Navy detonated near the US ship Gerald R. Ford, the statement said.

The US Geological Survey reported that an explosion in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Florida caused a magnitude 3.9 earthquake.

After the tests, the warship will undergo maintenance and repair.

The tests are being carried out "within a tight schedule that meets the requirements for reducing environmental impact, taking into account the migration of marine life in the test area", added the Navy.
