OREANDA-NEWS. January 26, 2009. President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov made a working visit around the Turkmen capital and its suburbs to inspect the progress of the construction and planting works carried out in the framework of the large-scale urban planning programme.

Heading for the west of Ashgabat the President’s cortege made a stop at the Botanic Garden. Vice Premiers M. Akmammedov and H. Muhammedov, Ashgabat Khyakim and the high-ranking officials of the particular ministries and departments greeted the Turkmen leader there.

Focusing on the significance of the research activity carried out by the local specialists the President put emphasis on the necessity to expand it to preserve and thoroughly study the rich Turkmen nature, the unique plant life of the native land through establishing the branches of the Botanic Garden in all the regions of the country. The President said that the results of this work should be widely applied in new tree and shrub planting projects throughout the country. The President gave instructions to the relevant high-ranking officials and demanded that they would take a responsible approach to the designated tasks.

Noting that creating the comfortable living conditions was an important aspect of the urban planning policy the President reprimanded the Ashgabat Khyakim and the Chairman of the Gyok Gushak Joint Stock Company for the shortfalls in the work. The President focused on the priority tasks on to develop Ashgabat through using modern construction materials and design innovations in particular. The President demanded that the relevant high-ranking officials should take strict control of the sanitary conditions in the city. Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized that Ashgabat as the capital city should be a paragon of cleanness, neatness and comfort.

Then the President’s cortege headed for the foothills of the Kopetdag Mountains where the vast woodland parks spread. The President inspected the conditions of the plantations and provided some remarks. Demanding that proper care should be taken of the green plantations and necessary land reclamation work should be carried out the President emphasized that under the local climatic conditions forest belts around Ashgabat were of paramount importance for protecting the health of people and achieving environmental wellbeing.
