OREANDA-NEWS. November 02, 2009. The official ceremony to lay the first cubic meter of concrete for the foundation of the future Ice Sport Palace for figure skating and short-track competitions with a capacity of 12,000 people takes place in the Olympic Park.

The ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Kozak, SC Olimpstroy President Taymuraz Bolloev, head of the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee Dmitry Chernyshenko, Chairman of the IOC coordination commission Jean-Claude Killy, and Olympic champion Tatyana Navka.

“I would like to believe that some of the luck I am putting into the foundation of the future palace will bring success to our sportsmen in 2014 in Sochi, “Tatyana Navka stated.

Today’s event marked the official start of construction on the Ice Sport Palace. The foundation of the future facility will be completed in two months and will require 20,000 cubic meters of concrete. Preparatory work on the construction site began in May of this year. Over a short period, construction workers were able to finish the piling field on a territory of 1.4 hectares and install a total of 120 piles within just a short period of time.

“We see how the Olympic project is gaining momentum, and thanks to the efforts of SC Olimpstroy and contractors, we will be able to bring all of our plans to life, “Dmitry Kozak said.

The ENGEOCOM Association is the contractor for the construction of this facility. In accordance with tradition, the builders will encase a special capsule containing a message to future generations in the palace’s foundation. All work on the construction of the Ice Sport Palace for figure skating and short-track competitions will be completed in October 2011.
