OREANDA-NEWS. November 06, 2009. The 3rd Congress of Azerbaijan’s Russian community has opened in Baku.

At the opening ceremony Ali Hasanov, the head of the Presidential Administration read out Azerbaijan President’s statement to the participants.

“Existence of the South Caucasus’ largest Russian community precisely in Azerbaijan testifies of our country’s tolerance,” the statement says.

In his statement the President emphasized that as well as all the country’s national minorities, the Russian community saves and develops its language and culture. At the same time the Azerbaijani Leadership is faithful to traditional policy of support of Russian language and culture – there are not limits on education in Russian language, a branch of the Moscow State University (MGU) opened in Baku and Russian Drama Theatre operates in Baku.

By his statement President Aliyev also expressed confidence that the Russian community would represent with dignity the Russian co-citizens residing in Azerbaijan.
