OREANDA-NEWS. November 16, 2009. Despite Baku status as the city of winds, wind energy cannot be considered as reliable alternate source of electric power in the country.

One of the local experts claimed that if winds equal by their force to Baku ones had blown somewhere in Gazakh region, then wind energy would have been reliable and efficient source of electricity.

“In Baku and its suburbs use of wind energy will be difficult in connection with population density and electromagnetic emission caused by windmills,” the expert emphasized.

At the same time Azerbaijan will be able to cover only 20% of electricity need at the best case.

“It will be done mainly at the expense of small hydroelectric power stations (on the condition of import of advanced technologies) applying biogas. As a result, alternate sources of power can be considered no more than as instrument of decentralization of energy system,” the expert said.
