OREANDA-NEWS. December 29, 2009. The Strategic Rocket Forces launched an intercontinental ballistic missile RS-20V (Voyevoda) from a launch base area, Orenburg region.

The launch was designed as part of development work to test the performance of the missile RS-20V and extending and extending Voyevoda missile system service to 23 years.

The test-launch once again demonstrated the correctness of a scheme and constructional and technical solutions, origins of the missile system equipped with a missile RS-20V, and its readiness to fulfill the military tasks during extended periods of operation. Prior to launching the missile was in operation for more than 21 years.

Long experience indicates a high impact and economic costs, which account for development work undertaken to increase the lifetime appointment of a strategic missile complexes (SMC). Further the service prolongation of the missile system Voyevoda equipped ICBM RS-20V, up to 25 years will increase the service life of these missiles for 10 years beyond its initial maintenance period - 15 years.

Works on the foundations of the extension of SMC service life are maintained by the Ministry of Defence, together with research institutes and industry organizations.Undoubtedly, such success is largely became possible thanks to the efforts that have for years been made in this important sector by Russian Ministry of Defence, Strategic Rocket Forces Command and the cooperation of both Russian and Ukrainian industry enterprises.
