OREANDA-NEWS. April 06, 2010. A delegation of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) led by Daniel Glaser, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Department of the Treasury is on a visit to Turkmenistan. The delegation consists of the representatives of the United States, the Russian Federation, the People’s Republic of China and the Swiss Confederation.

The FATF delegation was received at the Mejlis of Turkmenistan. During the meeting the guests were briefed on the major fields of the activity of the national Parliament in the context of the progressive reforms and democratic changes taking place on the initiative of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. It was noted that the Turkmen state took an active approach to addressing challenges and problems of the modern worlds and the effective steps to ensure peace, security, stability and sustainable development in the region. Having acceded to the international documents including the UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime and the UN Convention against Corruption, Turkmenistan stood steadfast to its international commitments. An important step towards this aim was Turkmenistan’s joining the Eurasian Group on Combating Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism (EAG) in 2007.

Exchanging views the sides underscored the need to further concert efforts to combat threats and challenges of the modern world. Particular attention was paid to the implementation of international norms and standards in the national legislation. In this regard emphasis was put on the special role of the Law of Turkmenistan “On Combating Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism” adopted last year.

During the visit the FATF delegation held a series of the meetings at the national ministries and departments including the Ministry of Finance, the Central Bank and the Prosecutor General’s Office, that reaffirmed the mutual intention to develop constructive cooperation through implementing joint projects in particular.
