OREANDA-NEWS. April 08, 2010. A national program to mitigate the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster for 2011-2015 is being elaborated in Belarus, Emergencies Minister of Belarus Enver Bariev said at a session of the Presidium of the Council of Ministers of Belarus.

The new program will prioritize the social and economic development of the Chernobyl affected regions and focus on the efforts to maptain a high level of social security and radiation safety.

Enver Bariev reminded that the year 2010 marks the conclusion of the fourth national program to mitigate the consequences of the Chernobyl accident. The major task of this program is to facilitate the transition from the rehabilitation efforts to the policy of task-specific social and economic revival and sustained development of Chernobyl affected regions preserving the high level of social security and radiation safety of the population. Some Br780.3 billion will be allocated from the national budget for this purpose in 2010.

These funds will help successfully complete the national program and make sure that the population receives the adequate social and healthcare services and the products meet the national and international food safety standards, the minister said.
