OREANDA-NEWS. November 23, 2010. The seminar focusing on international practices in the legal sector was conducted in the conference hall of the Grand Hotel. The seminar was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Supreme Court of Turkmenistan in collaboration with the regional project of the German Agency for Technical Cooperation “Support of Legal and Judicial Reform in Turkmenistan”.

Seminar participants represented the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Supreme Court, the Prosecutor General's Office, the faculties of law of the institutions of higher education of Ashgabat, the Bar Association of Ashgabat. Prominent civil law experts from Germany had arrived in the capital of Turkmenistan to participate in the seminar.

As is known, a key priority of the constructive foreign policy initiated by President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to promote wide international cooperation is collaboration with EU member countries. In particular, the Turkmen-German dialogue intensified significantly in recent years is consistently filled with a qualitatively new content illustrating in practice constructiveness and pragmatism of the foreign strategy of the Turkmen state.

The seminar provided a platform for a lively discussion of various aspects of cooperation in the legal sector. In particular, the participants considered the possibilities for exchanging views on such issues as the grounds for and principles of recovery of damages in civil law and international standards applied to address this issue in theory and practice.

Upon concluding the seminar the participants highly evaluated the high effectiveness of the discussions emphasizing that meetings of this kind played an important role in expanding fruitful cooperation in the legal sector.

In the framework of the Project “Support of Legal and Judicial Reform in Turkmenistan” held a regular meeting of the working group of Turkmen and German counterparts to jointly develop the recommendations on civil laws.
