OREANDA-NEWS. March 14, 2011. In these spring days the lamb campaign – a difficult test for livestock breeders is taking place in the livestock farms throughout the country. Farmers in Lebap and Mary Velayats were the first to launch this important agricultural campaign. Ahal and Balkan Velayats have joined them recently; livestock farmers in the northern region of the country will launch the campaign after March 15.

According to the Turkmenmallary Association, the good news coming from the distant pastures in these first spring days testifies to the good prospects for increasing small cattle population in the country. As of today, over 397,000 heads of youngsters have been lambed. In total, livestock farmers associations are planning to produce over 1.2 million heads. Livestock breeders of the Dagly famers association in Koytendag E trap in Lebap Velayat were the first to fulfill their contractual obligations to 109.3 percent. In this association 19,705 ewes produced 19,931 lambs.

The activities have been carried out to ensure that this year’s lamb campaign will be held in a proper and timely manner. Sheep sheds were provided with heat insulation, ewes were provided with supplementary feeding and drinking water, veterinary services work effectively, the measures to keep and breed further youngetsers were taken.

Also, the lamb campaign is continued at the farms breeding arvana camels. There five camel breeding farms in the country: the Sakarchaga farm in Mary Velayat, the Turkmenistan farm and the Kyzylarbat farm in Balkan Velayat, the Kirpi farm in Ahal Velayat and the Jeyhun farm in Lebap Velayat, which rear camels of this unique breed. In the epoch of new Revival and great reforms camel breeding as one of the age-old occupations of the Turkmen people, is a promising branch of the cattle raising sector. A range of products made from camel milk and wool is broadened from year to year.

As of January 1, 2011, the total camel population reared at the farms of the Turkmenmallary Association is 14,440 heads. This season, farmers are planning to rear 2,700 camels. Of them, about 800 animals have been reared to date.

The success of this year’s agricultural campaign enhance Turkmen livestock breeders’ confidence that they will fulfil their contractual obligations in a proper manner and make a worthy contribution to the country’s labour achievements in the year of the glorious anniversary – the 20th anniversary of Turkmenistan independence.
