OREANDA-NEWS. In Minsk, law enforcement authorities detained 188 participants in an unauthorized spontaneous rally in support of unregistered candidates for the presidency of Belarus.

This was reported on the website of the human rights center Viasna. According to it, journalists from various Belarusian and international media were among detainees.

Protest actions were also held in other Belarusian cities. According to Viasna, a total of about 30 people were detained in Gomel, Brest, Pruzhany, Salihorsk, Babruisk, Grodno and Stolbtsy. Portal Tut.by informed that 11 people were detained in Brest, where about 100 people went to the rally. In Grodno, 200 to 300 people came out to protest, there were no detentions. According to Tut.by, 215 people were detained across the country.

Protests in Minsk were accompanied by clashes with the militia.

On July 14, the Central Election Commission of Belarus refused to register Viktar Babaryka, former chairman of the board of Belgazprombank, who is now under arrest and accused of money laundering, tax evasion and bribery, as a presidential candidate. In addition, the Commission did not register the oppositionist Valery Tsepkalo due to a lack of the required number of signatures.

After these decisions, uncoordinated protests began in the republic.
