OREANDA-NEWS. October 15, 2010. A delegation of the Federal Assembly of the Swiss Confederation led by Eugen David, President of the Commission for External Affairs of the Swiss Council of States is on a visit to the Turkmen capital.

The guests were received at the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, where a thorough exchange of views on key fields of the Turkmen-Swiss cooperation, in particular inter-parliamentary cooperation between the two neutral states, whose peacemaking foreign-policy strategy had been welcomed and supported by the international community, took place. The guests were briefed on the activities of the Turkmen Parliament and its role implementing large-scale reforms initiated by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov. In this aspect, the side underscored the role of the open door policy initiated by the Turkmen state, whose status of positive neutrality, which had earned the well-deserved prestige on the world arena, had been embodied in the Turkmen leader’s speech at the 65th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, where the President of Turkmenistan had put forward the constructive initiatives on sustainable development and wide international cooperation in the Central Asian region and all around the world.

Focusing on the impressive potential of effective bilateral cooperation in a wide range of fields the representatives of the legislative bodies of Turkmenistan and the Swiss Confederation expressed the mutual willingness to maintain partnership aimed at enhancing inter-parliamentary contacts.

During the visit to the Turkmen capital the Swiss parliamentary delegation had the meetings at ministries and departments including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Central Bank of Turkmenistan.

The members of the Swiss Federal Assembly will visit the Main National Museum of Turkmenistan, the National Turkmen Carpet Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts in Ashgabat.
